Obituary for Mary Ottis Waites Lewey

Mary Ottis Waites Lewey, 81, of Hattiesburg, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Provision Living at Hattiesburg after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Hardy Street Baptist Church at 10 a.m., with services immediately following at 11. Burial will be in Waynesboro Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
Before her illness, Mrs. Lewey was an active member of Hardy Street Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, was involved in the Joy Club, and loved traveling and being a very active member of the Senior Adult Ministry. Before moving to Hattiesburg, she lived for many years in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where she and her husband raised their family and had many close friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Kae Lewey; her parents, Ottis and Catherine Waites; and one brother, Dr. James C. Waites.
She is survived by a son, Kevin (Weston) Lewey of Forrest City, Ark.; one daughter, Paula Hollingsworth of Hattiesburg; two grandchildren, Sara Cate (Robert) Moery of Little Rock, Ark. and Jake Hollingsworth of Hattiesburg; one brother, Dr. Thad F. (Gerry) Waites of Hattiesburg; and a sister-in-law, Josephine E. Waites of Brookhaven, Miss.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hardy Street Baptist Church, 1508 Hardy St., Hattiesburg MS 39401.
