Obituary for Honorable L. Larry McPhail

Honorable L. Larry McPhail, Sr., MGT United States Army, Retired, 73, of Hattiesburg died on Friday, September 15, 2017. Services will be Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at Main Street Baptist Church followed by burial at McPhail Farms. Judge McPhail was born in Columbia and was a graduate of Southwest Community College, The University of Southern Mississippi and funded scholarships at Pearl River Community College. He retired after 33 years as a Master Sergeant with the U.S. Army Reserves. He served eight years as City Judge of Lumberton and 24 years as Justice Court Judge in Lamar County. He was a two time president of the Mississippi Justice Court Judge Association; a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans; member of the National Coca-Cola Association and a proud owner of McPhail Farms. Judge McPhail was preceded in death by two daughters, Emily Ann McPhail and Lisa D. McPhail and one sister, Louise McPhail. He is survived by his wife, Sonya Rawls McPhail of Tylertown; five children, L. Larry McPhail, Jr. of Mobile, Susan McPhail Shepard of Mobile, Clint McPhail of Fort Worth, TX, Lori McPhail Connor of Hattiesburg and Noel McPhail of Hattiesburg and ten grandchildren, Lexy, Hannah, Chaz, Drake, Gabe, Jackson, Avery, Amelia, Lilly and Charley Rose and two great-grandchildren, Maddox and Taylor. Visitation will Wednesday, September 20, 2017 from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg.
