Obituary for Henry Sherman Heathcock III

Henry Sherman Heathcock, III, 48, of Hattiesburg, died July 14, 2018, at Forrest General Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, followed by burial in Highland Cemetery.
Sherman graduated from Hattiesburg High School in 1988. He then received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from USM. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Sherman dedicated his life to serving his community, state and country.
Staff Sergeant Heathcock began his military career in June 1989 which spanned 29 years with the 154th Regional Training Institute/2nd Infantry Training Battalion including two tours in Operation Iraqi Freedom. His Army National Guard career included: Military Intelligence, Trained and Conducted operations with foreign troops, Ordinance Technician, Army Leadership School, Army Instructor and Combat Life Saver Course.
He began his law enforcement career in 1997 with the Forrest County Sheriff’s Department where he continued to serve until his passing. He served in many capacities during his law enforcement career including: Deputy Sheriff, Correction’s Officer, Patrol Officer and Warrants Officer. He was a qualified Instructor in the fields of: SWAT, Firearms, Chemical weapons, Breaching, Grenade Launcher, destruction devices, less lethal projectiles, prisoner security, defensive tactics, batons, use of force, domestic violence, firearms concealed carry, tactics, search and seizure and more. He also served as Sheriff’s Office Liaison for the area Neighborhood Watch Groups.
Sherman was a devoted and loving husband and father. He was very involved with his son, Gary, by coaching Dixie Youth Baseball in Hattiesburg as well as the Youth League Football at Sacred Heart Catholic School. He was also very supportive of his daughter Anisah’s dance career and was so proud of her achievements. He also enjoyed watching Tessa succeed in basketball, swim team and life guarding. His children were his greatest joy.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ike and Doris Farris and H.S. and Lily Mae Heathcock.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years , Gina Heathcock of Hattiesburg; one son, Gary Isaac Heathcock of Hattiesburg; two daughters, Anisah Elizabeth and Tessa Leann Heathcock, both of Hattiesburg; parents, Alice Fay Farris Heathcock and Henry Sherman Heathcock, Jr., both of Hattiesburg; three sisters, Cynthia Fay Heathcock (Mark) Pearce of Richton, Kimberly Ann Heathcock (Chris) McCreary of Petal and Angela Alice Heathcock (Tim) Slade of Hattiesburg; father and mother-in-law, Gary Wayne and Sarah Helen Peeples of Meridian; brother-in-law, Gregory Wayne (Victoria) Peeples of Tuscaloosa nine nieces, Grace Pearce, Faith Pearce, Shelby McCreary, Juliann McCreary, Calah Slade, Britney Slade, Sarah Elaine Peeples (Louis) Sloyan, Natalie Ann Peeples and Mary Patton Peeples; and one nephew, Paul Gregory Peeples.
The Rosary will be said at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg, with the visitation following from 5:30 until 9 p.m.
