Obituary for Ethel Rae Myers Lott

Ethel Rae Myers Lott, a beloved mother, grandmother and wife, passed away to her Heavenly home on March 4, 2018, at the age of 72. Born to Troy and Sarah Freeman Myers in Mobile, Alabama, she has resided in Mississippi during her adult life. She graduated from Jones County Junior College and earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and a master's degree from William Carey University. For 26 years, she was an outstanding educator who taught school at Purvis Elementary School, Bassfield Elementary School, Poplarville Lower Elementary School, and served as Principal at Pearl River Central Elementary School and Poplarville Lower Elementary School. After retirement, she was the gracious First Lady and hostess at Liaison as the wife of Dr. Willis H. Lott, president of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
She was affectionately known as Ms. Ethel to so many college employees and friends, but was "Gram" to her five beautiful grandchildren. Ms. Ethel loved each of her grandchildren in a special way, taking great pride in their individual accomplishments and treasured every moment spent with them. Her love for her family, church and community was evidenced by the thoughtful deeds during her lifetime of service. Ms. Ethel will also be remembered as a loyal friend with a genuine love of life and a good laugh. During the past few years, Ms. Ethel and Willis had the opportunity to enjoy traveling, visiting with friends, volunteering together and ministering to the needs of others.
Ms. Ethel was also admired and respected by college personnel and business and community leaders as she extended true Southern hospitality at the numerous special events held at the Liaison, the college home of the President. She took great care in preparing for guests on these occasions with attention to every detail. Her expertise and talents were well known among her friends and family. Her presence was very much appreciated at college functions including the arts, sporting events, annual convocation, and student activities.
Her memory will be lived through the lives of those people she touched as students, coworkers, parents, college personnel, church families, civic and community leaders and her precious family members. She was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church serving as past president of United Methodist Women. Her devotion to her church and its mission will be sadly missed by all those who knew and worshiped with her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Troy and Sarah Freeman Myers. She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Willis H. Lott; daughter, Stacey (James) Williams of Brandon, Mississippi; son, Shane (Charlene) Lott of Picayune, Mississippi; and five loving grandchildren Ethan and Kirby Williams; Bryce, Sarah, and Sophie Lott. She is also survived by her brother Troy James Myers.
