Obituary for Chalene Aunette Barr Coghlan

Chalene Aunnette Barr Coghlan, 71, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She was born in Leesville, Louisiana. She was the daughter of Charles Estus Barr of Sumrall, Mississippi and Mary Allyce Barr of Bassfield, Mississippi. She graduated from Gulfport High School in Gulfport, Mississippi in 1965, where she was a majorette with the baton team. She earned a certificate in administrative studies at Draughon’s Business College in Jackson, Mississippi. For several years, she did clerical work for the Vardaman family that owns automobile dealers in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Mrs. Coghlan retired after twenty-five years as a Tax Collector for the Mississippi State Tax Commission in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She is survived by her companion of almost thirty-seven years, Alex Turner, and former husband, Charles M. Coghlan Sr. She is survived by her son, Charles M. Coghlan Jr. and his wife Tina of Covington, Louisiana. She was a loving and devoted grandmother to Merrick and Marina. She was also the twin sister to Runnette Simon and aunt to K.A. Simon, William Simon, and Anthony Simon. She cherished her time traveling twice a year with Alex to Jackson Hole Wyoming where she had many close friends including Joseph Skywolf who was like a son to her. She also loved making jewelry and dining out with her family and friends.
