Obituary for Betty Sue Blackburn Parker

Betty Sue Blackburn Parker, 72, suffered a long battle from Frontotemporal Dementia, she departed this life on August 24, 2019 to be with the Lord. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 27, 2019 from 1 P.M. until service time at 3 P.M. at Moore Funeral Home in Purvis followed by burial in Pleasant Home Cemetery.
Mrs. Betty was born on November 3, 1946 to Edgar and Mamie Blackburn in Quitman, MS. She grew up outside of Quitman and started school in the town of Pachuta. She attended Huggins High School in Quitman and the spent her junior and senior years at Oak Grove High School. This is where she met Mike, the love of her life, which was the beginning of 53 years marriage together. On May 17, 1977, Betty’s heart beat was the first to go through the Applications Technology Satellite, and has conferred the title of Space Communicator. This was successfully accomplished in partnership with the Goddard Space Flight Center in Washington, D.C. and AAA Ambulance Service in Hattiesburg. In Mississippi, she was an Allergy Technician with Dr. McCray’s Ear, Nose, and Throat Clinic. While they were living in Atlanta, GA, she worked as an office manager for Pak Mail in Mableton, GA, where she was a registered notary public for shipping. Betty took great pride in all her work and was dedicated to each and every job she did.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two sisters, Clara and Ann; and her brothers, Johnny and Carl.
She is survived by her husband; her two beautiful children whom she loved dearly, Terri (Steve) Zahorodny of Canton, GA, and Tony (Wende) Parker of Acworth, GA; four wonderful grandchildren whom she treasured, Sophia, Jackson, Kaylee, and John; and two brothers, Rev. Bobby Blackburn of High Point, N.C. and Tommy Blackburn of Quitman, MS.
Mrs. Betty’s family wishes to give a special thank you to, Kim Parker, RN; Amanda Hensarling, RN; Hilda Lang, LMSW, Lorra Walley, LPN; Brad Brownlee, Chaplin; Rachel Davis, CNA; Wes Purvis, RN, for their personal care and the dedication they showed Betty at her time of need. To the Asbury Hospice House nurses and Fredia. To Lindsey Jones who cared for Betty in her final months. We will forever be grateful for all of the love and support that you all gave to our family. God bless you all.
